I am interested in the family of Timothy (Thade) and Margaret (Peggy) SCANNELL (nee CRONIN). I don't know where or when they were born or died.
Their children: Catherine (Kate) b1848; Honorah(Norah) b1850; Margaret b1855; Mary b1857; Julia b1859; John b1862.
Honorah came to Australia in 1870, Julia in 1882, Mary in 1890. John went to America c1880.
I have their baptism certificates from St John's, Aghabullogue, and details of each of their families in Australia and the US. If anyone can help with further information about the parents I would be most appreciative.
Regards,
Judith

Hi Judith,
Thank you for your message.
Have you tried looking in the original church records in Aghabullogue? Most Catholic records are still held locally so you could try writing to the local parish priest for assistance. You can use the Irish Times websites to see what records are available in specific parishes. For Aghabullogue parish follow this link:
You could also try looking in civil registration records for Timothy and Peggy?s death record, as civil registration became mandatory in Ireland in 1864.These records are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. Here is their website:
http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm
You can search the indexes online at: https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1408347
For more information on how to use these and what information is in these records go to: http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/Irish-civil-registration.html
I did a search for a Timothy Scannell in Griffith?s Valuation. This is a property valuation survey that was carried out 1848-1864. Although it doesn?t give any genealogical information you might want to see it anyways.
Have you tried looking for either Timothy or Margaret in the 1901/1911 census records to see if they were still alive at the time. You can search these here:

Some other websites that you may find useful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/

Alternatively you could contact Mallow Heritage Centre in North Cork for assistance, however a fee may apply.

I hope this is helpful. Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,
