Have my family in the Griffith's Valuation, Tythe Applotment, Have also run out of parish records. I am now looking for the estate records that would include Gortnagwig, Arboe, Tyrone, Ireland. I will be back to PRONI in May. Any help with the finding correct estate would be helpfull. I thought Drapers but they are closed records.
Thanks John Bell

Hi bj, my great grandfather Robert Bell had a farm at Gortnaglough. Do you want to chat about a possible between us?
Regards,
Gerald.

Hello Gerald Henderson
My great Grandfather was Robert Bell from Gortnaglough, 1846-1908. His son James was my maternal grandfather - was your grandfather one of his brothers? He had 6 brothers and 4 sisters, several of whom emigrated to USA and Australia. If he is your Robert, I have loads of info on our roots and would love to get in touch! GG'father Robert was married to Eleanor (Gibson) in 1867. His parents were John and Emily Christiana.

Hello bjbell98
I think you are looking for Gortnaglough Bells? Like Gerald Henderson my g-grandfather was Robert Bell from G'glough - his sixth child (4th son) was my grandfather James. I have lots of info on our Bell roots if you want to get in touch.

Hi Gerald
I tried to reply to your request to bjbell but I don't know if I did it right, as I got no reply from either of you. Could your gg grandfather be the same one as mine? His son James was my grandad, the one who stayed on the farm.
Would love to hear from you as I've reached a blank in my family tree searches.
Regards
Valerie

Sorry I have been off of this sight and missed your post. But your Robert looks promising. I have looked at him in the 1901census. But have not been able to draw a line to him. My family lived in Gortnagwig. Which is very close. Robert and my John had the same landlord with Hewitt and Christie. Your Robert shows a birth of British America. Which would be Canada today. My John would have been stationed at St. John's at that time, but his war office records do not show a birth while he is in the service. I was unable to find any parish records for the time period in Canada for a birth on Robert. I can be directly emailed at bjbell98@sbcglobal.net

Hello my name is Kath and I think my grandmother Anna marie Martin Bell was one of Roberts sister. She married a John Henry Martin in Belfast 1888. That had 2 children Emily Alice born 1890 in Gortnaguig and James Alexander born 1892 born in Brlfast. My grandmother and her son James sailed from Liverpool 1912/1913 on the Empress of Ireland to Canada and settled in Winnipeg. The next time I learn any thing was that Anna was back in Ireland living at 2 Maryville Avenue, Lisbon Road in 1919 and this was the year she passed away aged 59. Hope this helps with your research. If you have any information of my ggfather John Henry Martin born around 1866 or their daughter Emily Alice please post on this site. Thank you Kath.

Hi Kath! Yes, Robert had a sister called Anna Maria Martin who was living in Winnipeg in Feb 1915 when their brother James died and his estate was divided up. I got this document from old family papers. Robert was my great grandad, the bjbell above is a descendant of the next bro John George. (there were 11 of them altogether). Alice and Margaret emigrated to Australia and I'm in touch with one of Alice's descendants through Ancestry.com. All I knew about Anna Maria was that she was a widow living in Winnipeg - i assumed her husband had died there, but it looks like he never left Ireland after all? Which opens up a whole new view of things!! Could you email me directly on stangmoreval@yahoo.co.uk as I'd love to hear more. Oh, and by the way, your great? grandmother inherited the grand sum of seven pounds, six shillings and a halfpenny, which was a seventh share of the estate...
hope to hear from you soon
Valerie
