I have what appears to be a very promising lead. In the 1826 Tithe Applotment Books for Drumbanagher Tld, Donagh Parish, Co. Monaghan, there appears a Bernard McConnell. Bernard is the name of my great great great grandfather. His wife was Mary McMahon. If you follow the link provided below you'll see a scan which shows Bernard and a Moses McMahon living in the same area. Moses could be the father of Mary McMahon. http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/index.jsp Bernard's son, Owen, is my great great grandfather. He married Margaret Wall (possibly Ward) in Ireland. Three of their children born in Ireland were Bernard and John Thomas (1840, likely twins), Lawrence (1843, possibly also known as Alonzo) and James (1844). Owen immigrated to Canada sometime before 1847 and later lived in New York State. He and Mary had other children born in Canada and one born in NY. Owen was a farmer. So all of this leads to my questions: do any records exist which might provide additional information or corroborate anything that I already know? Also, is there a way to find out if any of Bernard's descendants still live in the area? Or might you have suggestions as to how I might expand my search?

Hi there,
I dont think there are many volunteers working on Co Monaghan, you will get them on http://www.countymonaghanfund.com. There are lots of McMahon's so hopefully you will find yours..

I think that if you reach out to Paddy McQuaid in Emyvale he may have a strong lead for you. His address is p_b_mcquaid@yahoo.co.uk.
Please let me know how you make out.

Hello Ray:
Thanks for the lead. I contacted Paddy and heard back from him promptly. He seems to think that there are some folks living there currently, surname "McGonnell", to whom I might be related. He's shared my interest with them and I'm hoping to hear back from them in due time.
The possibilities here are very exciting. Hopefully they'll play out quickly and positively. I'll keep you posted as to any further developments.
Many thanks once again,

Tom,
It sounds like you may be needing to take a trip to Emyvale soon.

Hello Ray:
A trip may well indeed be in the cards for the very near future. I've had initial contact with someone there who may be a relative, although they tell me they haven't done any genealogical research, I'm sure that if we put our heads together we'll somehow sort all of this out.
Thank you once again for your help. Hope you and yours have a very Happy Easter. I'll keep you posted.
