Frances Harrison was born in Wicklow according to the 1881 census she was 101 years old.She died the same year in Willington Quay near Newcastle on Tyne Northumberland.

Her obituary says she was born in Wicklow 6th September 1779 she had 22 chidren and the oldest surviving was James Conway aged 75.She was still able to knit a pair of stockings and tell a good story of scenes she had witnessed during her life.

Frances was married to Michael Conway and had at least 22children born in Wicklow  James 1812, John 1814 then at some time the family moved to Bolton in Lancashire where they had  two daughters Maria 1820 & Ann 1825.

Michael must have died in Bolton and Frances Married again to William Currie(Curry) and had a daughter Mary 1834.

By 1841 Franceas was living in Newcastle upon Tyne and in 1846 she married agin to James Costello. according to the marriage certificate her father was John Harrison, Butcher.

iN THE 1851 her daughter Ann had married Thomas Flanagan and was living next door. James and his wife Hannah were living in Willington Quay and had a busness.

John and his wife Mary were living in Leeds, they eventually moved North and Johns name was on Frances Death Certificate. It says she died of Old age !!!!

Where were all the olther children ??

If anyone can help with information about this unusual lady and her family I would be very pleased ,

  • Hello Brendan, so far I have found a Frances Harris married in 1810, I put Michael Conway as a spouse and that is what came up.

And 2 James Conways baptisms  1810 and 1814, There didnt seem to be any John Conways.

I don't know of any other possible childrens names to look for.

Sometimes on the uk census returns John Conway was down as CONAWAY. is that possibly a regular name or more likely that was what the enumerator thought it was??

    Thank you for your interest.

  • I have purchased the only record of the marriage of Michael Conway and Frances HARRIS in the parish of AVOCA 27 feb 1810 . There are also two baptisms for James Conway  the one dated  Bapt. 19th dec 1810 also in AVOCA with the mother  just down as Frances. I found another baptism for a Joseph( previously unknown) born 1815 and mother is down as Frances Harris.

Can you tell if I am missing something I can't find ' Harrison' at all.

Might it be that the name I have on the marriage certicate is incorrect?
