Good day all!

Our ancestor, Peter John Joseph Lynch (b. 1835) to Edward Lynch and Mary Cusack immigrated to Cincinnati, Ohio via Canada after leaving his little townland of Seefin, Knockbride parish.  James may have come to Cincinnati before Peter, but Katherine followed later.  Another sibling, Patrick married and left for Austrailia, all during the beginning of the famine.  Edward is listed on the Griffiths Evaluation living next to his mother Anne, and renting acreage and lodgings from a Josph Dixon.

The only relation to ever go back or to keep in contact with family members was Fr. Kenneth Lynch, a Passionist priest.  He visited many times, and stayed, collecting bits of information, but none that really "fit" together that I can tell!

In some of his letters, he references a St. Brigid's Church in Tunnyduff, and I'm wondering if that's where our people's records may be, such as christening, marriage, etc.  Living in Kentucky and not being able to "see" where all these areas are geographically associated, I have difficulty grasping it.

Does anyone have any lines that cross the Lynch, Cusack line?

Does anyone know the best way to inquire about church records?  Since I'm in the US, I'd like to do it efficiently :)

Thanks and good luck to all!

  • Hi Jonni,

Civil registration records are available from the General Register Office (GRO). These start from 1864. You can access the website here:http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm Or you might try Valuations office in Dublin (http://www.valoff.ie) which will have a record of the land registry from 1855 to modern times. This will assist in seeing what happened to any land the familymay have owned (as it usually passed on to a relation).

You could also try contacting the Cavan Co Library for further assistance.

Yes the Church is St Brigids, but you would be better off contacting Cavan Genealogy.

My husbands family are Lynchs & Cusack, but the townlands are different to yours but not too far away.  Peter Lynch born 1841 married Rose Cusack around 1864.

I looked up 1901 Census & there are 2 Lynch families  in Seefin including Edward see this link http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Cavan/Drumenespic/Seef…

He is not there in 1911.

    Who did Fr Lynch visit?

My email is ocallaghan.carmel@gmail.com if you wish to share more information.
