I am trying to trace William Browne's birthplace and his parents. I know he died in Terenure, Dublin about 1905. In the 1901 census he listed County Down as his birthplace. He was a tram conductor. Family rumours say he was linked to Castlewellan and possibly linked to the coastguards. It is also said that he ran off with Ellen and converted to Catholicism, which is why they married in Dublin.
I discovered that he married Ellen Phelan from Queen's County in October 1885 in St. Mary's on Haddington Road Dublin. It was witnessed by a Jacob Browne and Catharina Claxton. His parents are listed as "Guilielmi & Marie Brown" (listed in latin but translated to William & Mary/Maria Brown) from County Down.
I am looking for anything with regards to these people or even a push in the right direction, thanks.

List 2 William Browns son of William and Mary born 1850+/- 15 years.
Before you go and pay for transcripts or view pages, play about with the date ranges and various parishes in the drop down menu to narrow down your search. If you put in some time and effort you can get a lot of data for free.
For example putting in surname Brown - no firstname- father William mother Mary date range 10 years either side of your William will throw up the number of children born to the same/similar named couple. By experimenting with the letters of the alphabet you can work out the names of those children before you decide whether or not to buy a transcript.
