Hi Paddy Reilly. Firstly, you do mean that Alice was born in 1842, not 1924 - right? Secondly, can you tell me who was residing in Cavan in 1901 and maybe 1911? I can check these census listings for you. Do you have any Reilly relatives now living in the New York area? I am an officer in New York City's County Cavan Association and have a few Reilly and O'Reilly members from Cavan. Any other details you have would help. Eastern Cavan is full of Reilly's. The village of Ballyjamesduff in Cavan has a PADDY REILLY festival - where those with this name gather periodically. I'll see what I can do. Regards, Mike McGovern.

Looks like this couple had two sons called Patrick, first b. 1864 second 1866. Common practice to rename a child after one who had died. Both are after civil registration, so copies of both/or one of the certificates should give you a location for the birth. Photocopies from GRO in Roscommon cost about 4 Euros. Unfortunately there are lots of Patricks born in both years. There is one death listed for a two year old in 1866 Cavan Ref 8-67. Regrettably Irish death certificates are probably one of the least useful pieces of documentation since it contains little other than date and place of death, age at death and cause of death. However the key piece of data you want is location, which will be there - assuming he died at home. With a location you can focus on a particular location/parish to eliminate all the many other Reillys/O'Reillys with the same names.

You can Fax- no online at present- your request in and pay by debit/credit card Make sure to tick the photocopy box ONLY rather than full certificate or anything else and quote the location Cavan 1866 Ref 8-67.
You can then request a birth certificate based on parents names and location as per death cert. I believe it costs a bit more if you can't give the exact ref. number and they have to search.
Takes 3-5 weeks sometimes less.

hi, thanks for helping,
Alice Kelly was born in 1924 in county Fermanagh Ireland she died 27th february 1904 aged 80 years young, i have her death certificate, on it it says that she marrried an Owen rielly first then she married again to a Bernard Rielly, owen was born in county cavan 1840 and was a farm labourer as far as i know and there were 4 children, Patrick born 1866, Margeret rielly who married a Thomas Wilson, Alice Rielly who married a James Kennady and also an Owen Rielly born 1857 enniskillen, i have his death certificate and this shows his father to be Owen(1840) ad far as i know all 4 of the children were born in inniskillen.
on the 1881 census scotland it shows that Bernard Riellyhad come to glasgow with Alice Rielly (kelly) also patrick and also 1 of there grandsons who was the son of Owen(1857) his name was Luke rielly 1977-1954.
sorry if this is all a bit sketchy this is all the information that i have and if anyone can help.
many thanks for answering my last question i have seen the Paddy Rielly festival advertised and maybe one day i will get back over to Ireland again and visit this area.
