Hello from New Zealand
My great grandfather Michael OMeara came from Lisnamoe. He was born in September 1850. His parents were Cornelius (Con) and Margaret nee Renehan. He had siblings Patrick, Eliza (married James Brewer) and William (married Anne McCarty). I think only William stayed on the farm. Most of the Brewers seemed to go off to Hartford Connecticut with some also going to Queensland.
Here in New Zealand, Michael married Catherine Kennedy, oldest daughter of John and Mary (nee Harty) Kennedy. John Kennedy was the son of Hugh and Catherine (nee Hassett). John was born in 1835 in Ballymackey, her sister Mary in 1837, sister Johanna (married Martin Shanahan also from round Ballymackey) in 1843 and brother Patrick in 1848.
With so many strong Ballymackey names, there must be far out cousins still living around Lisnamoe but also cousins spread far and wide. I'd love ot be able to track them down, especially my great grandfather's cousin Patrick.
Warm wishes

Hi Sharron,
Thank you very much for your message.
Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864, so any births, deaths or marriages that occurred in the families would be recorded in these records. Civil records are available from the GRO in Dublin. Here is their website: http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm
You can search the indexes to these records online at:
https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1408347
Also, have you tried searching for O?Meara?s and Kennedy?s in the 1901/1911 census records to see who was still in the area at the time? You can search these online here:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/
Some other websites that you may find helpful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
Irish Times: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/index.htm
Genealogy Links: http://www.genealogylinks.net/uk/ireland/tipperary/index.html
Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,

Hello all
I'm not sure whether I should post on the Toomevara or Ballymackey mesage board as Lisnmaoe is in Balltymackey townland but the parish records relating to Lisnamoe are in the Toomevara Parish in the diocese of Killaloe.
I have been poring over the reproduced Toomevara parish records and thenk I have found Mary Harty's baptismal record. In April 1840, I found: Record very faint. No Christian name visible. ? Andrew and Judith Harty Ballymackey Sponsors; ? Carroll & Con Kennedy Ballymackey. Many of the records are easy to read but others as you will know, a nightmare. I tried to keep looking for Ballymackey to focus on deciphering and that was quite helpful.
I have also chipped away at the Kennedy, O'Meara, Harty lines and have filled in quite a few gaps. I have been much less successful with the Hassett and Gilmartin lines. The parish records show lots of Gilartins and Hassetts in the parish records but I am assuming they were labourers and didn't rent land. The Hartys were in Island, Dunkerrin near Moneygall but they seem to have shifted to Lisnamoe. I have found Carrolls, Ryans and Stapletons married to my Hartys and they are from around Busherstown near Moneygall. Moneygall shifts fromTipperary to Offaly at various times too.
Regards from New Zealand
