My great great grandfather left Grangemockler in 1849, his wife Ann (possibly Welch or Power) and son Thomas born 1849 went with him. He joined the East India Company, serving in many countries for many years, ending with time in the Dublin Fusiiers.
He died in 1899 at the home of his daughter Eliza and son in law James Moher, at Ninemilehouse, close to Grangemockler.
His son Alfred, my great grandfather was also in the army, his 4th child being born in Warrington where the descendants still live.

I have quite a bit of info from their travels with the army, children born Hong Kong etc and I have them in Warrington, but I don't really have much other info of their time in Ireland.
I have been to Grangemockler a couple of times, chatted with Kitty Cummings from the post office, been in Vaughns for tea and been up Carricmaclair. Also we visited the grave of Thomas Mockler junior which luckily has a headstone which was bought by fellow soldiers.
I met a completely mad but lovely priest there who seemed bemused by the idea of going through records which were faded. That was in 2000.
I don't know if Thomas born 1829 had brothers and sisters and what happened to them. I have found most details due to his time in the army and I realise that records pre 1829 may not be available.
