Hi, I just found out that my Murphy ancestors came from Donaghmore. I'm not sure if this means townland or parish. I found two entries in the New York Emigrant Savings Bank records an all it said was, "Native of Donaghmore, Tyrone, Ireland. Arrived NY 1848 per Ashburton." They settled in New York City (in the Bronx).
My ancestors are:
Edward Murphy, b: abt 1806 married to Ann, no surname
Michael Murphy (son), b: abt 1829
Michael was a boilermaker. This is documented on the bank record dated 1 March 1859. Boilermaker is also documented in the census records and the NYC Directories. Ann is a homemaker in the bank record dated 1 April 1860. In the NYC Directory for 1860, Ann is listed as widow of Edward. She is listed as widow back to 1857, so we know Edward died sometime before 1857.
I'm looking for any documentation that would give Ann's maiden name (i.e., marriage record). Also any other documentation for this family.
Thanks for any help,
Allison

Allison:
Donaghmore is a village, townland and civil parish in Co. Tyrone.
You may want to contact St.Patrick's Church in Donaghmore to see if they have baptismal records for the 1830s and 1840s.

Thanks for the info Roger. I will be in Dublin Apr 23-27 and would love to visit my ancestor's homeland. Hopefully I can find more before then.

Forgot something,
In the bank record for Ann Murphy, it said she was widow of Edward, BUT it also said she had 8 children, and I only know of one, Michael.
Update: Siblings of Michael are Andrew, James, Edward, Ann, Neil/Neal, Rose/Roseanne.

Updated info:
I found in the New York Emigrant Savings Bank records an entry for a daughter of Edward and Ann, after Edward was deceased, that showed Ann's maiden name as 'Loughran'.
Since then I was able to get a copy of Edward and Ann's marriage record dated 20 Jan 1818. I was also able to download the scanned copy of the marriage records book from the Parish of Killeeshil where they were married (the bride's parish). Although it is in Latin, I have a transcribe to English copy. The witnesses are Patrick Loughran and Patricia Cunningham. Don't know if these are Ann's parents, or could Patrick be a brother?
So Edward is from Donaghmore, and Ann is from Killeeshil.

Allison:
Patrick was likely the brother of Ann.
