Hello,

I am trying to research my ancestor Ellen Mary Cashman, given as being born in Middleton, Cork, in 1845. From an Ancestry.com search, I have an entry in the Civil Registration Births Index of her being born and recorded in Volume 5 Page 101, on FHL number 101062. Does anyone know if this document is available on-line?

I have no further information about her parents.

She married Matthew De Lacey circa 1860/61, as the first child was born in 1862.

They emigrated to Wales between 1865 and 1867, as two children are recorded as being born in Carrignavar, Cork, in 1865 and Wales in 1867.

If anyone can help establish who Ellen's parents were, when she was married, or shed any light on her early years, I shall be most grateful.

Regards,

Peter De Lacey

The civil registration process did not begin in Ireland until 1864 so I don't think the record applies to your Ellen Mary Cashman. The Mormons have begun to digitize all of their records but they only have the BMD index records on line currently. You will still have to write to the GRO http://www.groireland.ie  to get a copy of the actual record.

  • Hi Peter,

The Midleton Parish have a local office in St. Mary's road, Midleton where you can call in in the mornings (I think it is between 10.30 and 12.30 but not sure) to make inquiries.

If you write to them they may be able to help as they have the records there. They should have her baptism and possibly her marriage as the people usually got married in the womans parish. Her husband may have been from Carrignavar or may have moved there for work.

    Regards. Anne.
