I am looking for the relatives of my Kyte family from Silvermines. My gggfather was John Patrick Kyte who emigrated toCape Breton, NOva Scotia, Canada in the 1830s -40s. zjohn Kytes first wife was Marguerite Power also from the area. His son Patrick and Patricks wife Helen Mahoney also from Silvermines emigrated with him. There is a headstone at the graveyard in Silvermines that was erected in memory of the Kyte/Ryan family with the names Winifred Kyte and I believe Peter Ryan on it. My gmothers name was Winifred Kyte. I have looked for Kytes in the area before but have always come up empty. The Ryan Kyte descendants would also be cousins. Thanks

I too am looking for Kyte/Powers/Mahoney ancestors in Silvermines. My husband is descended from John Patrick and his first wife Marguerite. (I have Patrick Michael and Helen Mahoney as the parents of John Patrick.) When we visited Silvermines a number of years ago, I had the opportunity to search the parish records but could not link our Kyte family and the Kyte family on the headstone. The records did not go back far enough. I also communicated with a member of the family on the headstone. She also could not fill in the several generation gap. I've attached a photo of the headstone and the Kyte home in Silvermines probably from the early 1900's.
I've been told that Kytes from Silvermines also immigrated to Melbourne, Australia. Possibly descendants in Australia will have some information.

I have a lot of information on the Kyte family when they lived in Canada. Are you and your husband in Canada? We must be 3rd or 4th cousins. I think John had 16 or 18 kids with Helen and Margeurite. I have picture of the headstone also with my mother. Her mother was Clare Winifred Kyte from Cape Breton. Have you been to the graveyard in Cape Breton? Lots of Kyte graves. i have John Patrick's will that he left. It was on file at the Richmond County courthouse in Cape Breton. How does your husband fit into the Kyte history?
