Seeking descendents of Mary Collins and Thomas Casey

Thanks for getting in touch.I have checked roots ireland which has most of the church records online but no luck there.Some counties (Clare for example) are not on that site so if they were married in Clare.(Kilbeacanty borders Clare) it would not be on the rootsireland database.

Maybe you could let me know what information you have.I have come across a John Casey born in Ireland  from Oil,Perry Indiana married to a Theresa S Casey in the US 1910 census.If that is the same person as you mentioned then ancestry.com gives his date of birth as approx 1838.He was said to be 72 in 1910.It says he arrived in USA in 1861. His wife was estimated as born in 1849 and in 1910 she was 61 years old.

He died 1912.

If you think this is the same person you mentioned you might let me know.

Kilbeacanty was devasted by the Great famine.In 10 years it lost 2411 people .They may have died or emigrated we don't know.(pop 4575 in 1841  to 2164 1851 ).In the 25 years after the famine 2.5 million people emigrated from Ireland so moving to the USA during that time makes sense.

In 1901 there were three Casey Families in Kilbeacanty.Two in Drummin townland one in Kilcrimple.Both these townlands in Kilbeacanty parish suffered a lot Drummin had 57 inhabited houses in 1841  and only 30 in 1851.Kilcrimple had 42 inhabited houses in 1841 and 11 in 1851.

By the way both these areas were I believe at the time  Irish speaking areas.

There are still Caseys in the parish.

tonight.

Johns' father, Thomas was from Kilbeacanty Parish and his mother(Mary)was
from Peterswell - or so the story goes. Her maiden name was Collins. Are
there still any Collins left around Peterswell?

If you can find a live one on your side of the pond, tell them Hi from this
side. My husband, Kenneth, & I will be on holiday and passing through Galway
the first week of June. Would be grand if we could meet a relative. I'd
give anything to attend Mass at either Parish.

Ken and I reside in St. Croix, Indiana -on the same farm bought and
homesteaded by John over 150 years ago. He and Theresa must have been real
pioneers! I wonder what it must have been like for them, finding their way
in a strange new country. There was a growing Irish community, but it was
sparsely populated & most neighbors would have spoken German or Swiss back
then.
