Casey family

Hi Colleen,

I hope this is a direct connection to the Casey's you are tracing, it is in the Mitchelstown area.

I don't know if this is useful to you. It is part of the 1901census return form of Patrick Casey. It is of Patrick Casey and his wife Mary along with their widowed daughter Mary O'Brien and her nine children living in the farm house.

The house is still there.

Mary O'Brien was my Great Grandmother on my mothers side which I think makes Patrick Casey my Great Great Grandfather.

The farm house is just outside Mitchelstown on route R665 in the Hamlet of Knocknamuck (Hill of the Pig). It is in the Parish of Brigown. We stayed there in approx 1958 on holiday. I can still remember somethings about the house. Three of the unmarried grown up children were living there together at that time, Margaret, Thomas and Elizabeth O'Brien.

I do not know when Mary O'Brien died but the house was still registered to Mary O'Brien in 1989. Garrett F. O'Brien who was a brother of my mother was living there in 1989 and reregistered it in his name.

If you have any questions that I might be able to help you with let me know. I also have the 1911 census return and some other pages from the two census if they are of help.

My mother , Nora/Norah O'Brien (Nora Power) was the daughter of one of  Patrick Casey's Grand Children (by Mary O'Brien) William O'Brien. I am trying to find out exactly where she grew up. I know it was in Fermoy but no more than that. Her mother was Margaret O'Brien. I think that you are working backwards, unfortunately I am working forwards but you never know what you find as you are looking so if you do stumble on any  info especially around 1930's please let me know.

I have been researching your information about your Casey family to see if we have a connection. Michael Casey, my great great grandfather was born in Boolakelly, and lived in Ballyarthur outside Mitchelstown. According to info I have, he was a farm laborer in summer and then moved to Mitchelstown in winter for the children's schooling.

I have him in the 1911 census in Ballyarthur with his wife Hanorah, a daughter and granddaughter.

The daughter, Kate Casey stayed in Ireland and married James Slattery.
Another daughter Nora Casey, went to US and returned to Ireland, she was married to John Burgess.

So, not sure if we have a connection but assuming Michael Casey had plenty of siblings you never know. I will continue to investigate and appreciate hearing from you!
