Hi,
Thank you for your message.
Unfortunately, it will be difficult to find any records on Daniel and Nancy without a more specific place of origin. Most Irish record sources- church records, land records, census records- are based on specific locations. Until you know a specific location within Ireland, preferably a parish or placename, it may be difficult to do anything more with these records.
Civil registration did not become mandatory in Ireland until 1864. Prior to this all births, marriages and deaths were recorded by the local parish church. Most of these records are still held locally so you can see what it is important to have a parish name.
Do you have any documentation belonging to the family that mentions a specific place name? This can include census records, wills, letters, diary entries, old photographs. Sometimes places of origin can be found on tombstones.
Did the couple emigrate? If so you may be able to find a place of origin in their immigration records. For immigration records in the US check the National Archives at http://www.archives.gov/research/immigration/
There are a few places online where you can try searching for records, however without more information it may be difficult to know if the records you find are relevant. It is also important to remember that only some and not all church records are available online.
www.familysearch.org Have a large databse of genealogical records including some irish births and marriages.
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/ Have church records from Carlow, Kerry, Dublin and parts of Cork available free of charge.
www.rootsireland.ie have church records available but you have to pay to use this website.
Some other websites that you may find useful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/
The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm
Irish Times: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/index.htm
i hope some of these are helpful. Remember to post any new information that you find here. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Kind regards,

I found the immigration records a while ago but sadly last town of residence was set to Unknown for everyone. Grrr
Nancy Ryan Hickey b 1814 arrived with baby Patrick in New York on 1/23/1849 and settled in Albany
Daniel Hickey b 1820 arrived 9/17/1849 with 6 year old Thomas on 9/17/1849.
Both traveling parties went through Liverpool first which I can only assume is making it more difficult to track. Again, any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm helping friends find their roots but mine are still a mystery.
