I am Connie McNeley Wallukait from Iowa in the United States. My 3rd great grandfather was John (MacNeilly or McNeely) McNeley b: abt 1793 in County Antrim, Ireland and his wife Abigail Berget. John immigrated to the U.S. at age 21 from County Antrim, Ireland about 1811 arriving on the Ship Hibernia in New York. I believe he immigrated alone with no other relatives.
John & Abigail's son was James McNeley b: 1816 in Ohio. James married Jane DeLong in 1841 in Ohio and they immigrated from Ohio to Iowa abt 1853.
The question is who are the parents of John (MacNeilly or McNeely) McNeley that was b: abt 1793? I believe it could be either a John or a Robert (MacNeilly or McNeely) McNeley but so far have no real proof of either one. It has been said that John McNeley b: 1764 was born in County Antrim, Ireland - Ulster Province and that his son John b: 1793 was born in Templepatrick, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. None of this has been proven.
I would appreciate and help or guidance you can give me to locate the parents of John (MacNeilly or McNeely) McNeley b: abt 1793 in Ireland.

Tracing ancestors in the 1700s in Ireland is very difficult as so few records exist from that time. You don?t say what denomination the family was but I note that John was born c 1793. The earliest church records for Templepatrick only start in 1796. (Non-Subscribing Presbyterian Church). So I don?t think you?ll be able to trace his own birth from that source.
If he might have been Presbyterian you could try those Templepatrick records in case siblings births appear to the same parents. That might be a hint. A copy of the records is kept in PRONI, Belfast. They are not on0-line anywhere as far as I am aware.

Thank you for your comments and suggestions. I am going to assume for now that he was Presbyterian since most of my immeditate family is Presbyterian and in most cases religion is passed down through the generations.
Thanks again,
Connie
