I am trying to find a record for my great-great grandparent's marriage. Their names were Peter Hardiman and Catherine Duffy. I found them on the 1901 Census. I'm thinking they must have married about 1879 as their oldest child, Michael's age was given as 23. I also found them on the 1911 Census. It said that they had been married thirty-two years. Also, I'm wondering, the 1911 census said they had 4 children, I was only aware of three, Michael, Kate, and Maria. How would I find out the name of their fourth child. I know they were Roman Catholic but I have no idea of the name of the church they attended. What information would I find on the marriage record? Their daughter, Maria was my Great-grandmother. Any information you can help me find would be greatly appreciated.

Have a look at the Geneal Register Office site below:

    http://www.groireland.ie/about_us.htm

As you think the marriage took place after 1864 (the year after which generally all births, deaths and marriages were registered by the State) you stand a good chance of finding this. Civil registrations are very handy documents as they usually include the names of parents of both parties in the marriage for example, so you can immediately go back another generation.

I'm not sure if you can have them do a search for you or if you have to present yourself in person but you can get in touch and ask them. Luckily you have the Hardiman and Duffy names and a fair idea of a date of marriage, give or take. Have a look anyway and see what they say. If you calculate from the Census the year of birth of the 4 children you could potentially get their civil birth certs too.

    Hope this helps

  • Hello Angela,

If you go to www.rootsireland.ie you will find your g grandparents marriage record in 1874 in Co. Roscommon.

this is the only record for a marriage between a peter hardimandand a catherine duffy, so I would presume that this is the couple you're looking for.

    Regards,
