I am searching for any information about my grandfather William Edward Boyce. I think his birthdate was appoximately 1879 (not sure, may be later). I believe he was from the area around Belfast, Ireland (county Antrim, province Ulster). He emigrated to Canada around 1900. He married my grandmother Jessie Ross Williamson on 16/05/1917 and lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He had four children. He died on 02/10/1926 in or just outside Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. I would like to find out his actual birthplace and any other information about his family in Ireland. Thank-you.

Do you know much about their emigration? The dates, the reasonwhy they left, who they may have travelled with?..etc..Generally more information was given atthe port of arrival rather than the port of departure. If you knew which city they arrived at (e.g.Liverpool, New York, etc.), this could be a good place to find more information. -And perhaps evenfind out an exact place of origin. Ellis Island:http://www.ellisisland.org/search/passSearch.asp Castlegarden:http://www.castlegarden.org/ US National Archives/Immigration info:http://www.archives.gov/research/immigration/ The Boston Pilot; From October 1831 through October 1921, the Boston Pilot newspaper printed a?Missing Friends? column with advertisements from people looking for ?lost? friends and relativeswho had emigrated from Ireland to the United States. This extraordinary collection of 40,743 recordsis available here as a searchable online database, which contains a text record for each ad thatappeared in the Pilot. http://infowanted.bc.edu/ The next thing you could do is find the counties and places in Ireland your family names are mostprevalent. Look at the website http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/surname/ and perhapssomething will match some other clue you may have found elsewhere? If nothing turnsup ? it is advisable to try different variations of the spellings of the names. If you have a possiblefirst name you could try the Irish Census 1901, 1911 at www.census.nationalarchives.ie/ or the landvaluation record called Griffiths Valuationhttp://askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml

Thanks so much for this information from the Civil Registration Births index. I will follow-up using this information....however, I think my grandfather's birthdate was 1879 as it appears on his marriage certificate to my grandmother. Thanks again!

Hi. This is weird. I was just talking to my mom about our relatives. My mom is from Belfast. I have a great great uncle named William Boyce. We do not have a middle name. He left Belfast to head to either America or Canada and was never heard from again. He was born in 1879. We know that for sure. So I googled his name and birthdate and your post came up. I am very interested to know whether this is him as his family thought maybe something bad happened to him after he left. I met his sister Katherine Stewart Boyce when I was 14 and she was telling us about him. My grandmother always wondered what happened to him. My mom just called while I am writing this and she has the 1901 Northern Ireland census and our William is not on it. Which makes sense if he left for Canada in 1900. This is very intriguing and would love to hear from you to try to figure this out.
