I am searching for any information about my grandfather William Edward Boyce. I think his birthdate was appoximately 1879 (not sure, may be later). I believe he was from the area around Belfast, Ireland (county Antrim, province Ulster). He emigrated to Canada around 1900. He married my grandmother Jessie Ross Williamson on 16/05/1917 and lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He had four children. He died on 02/10/1926 in or just outside Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. I would like to find out his actual birthplace and any other information about his family in Ireland. Thank-you.

Hi Lesley,
If you go to www.rootsireland.ie you will find most of the church records there. I found two william boyce born 1879, and 1880
If you go down the left side of the site you'll see county genealogy centres. Click on this and a map of ireland will appear.
Click on Co antrim, then enter the names and date again.
You can pay to view these records, €5 each.
If you want to see where the 1879 one is registered, then scroll down to parish/district dropdown menu. this lists all the parishes in antrim. Search each one individually starting with all the belfast parishes. Was he RC or COI?It will half the work if you know his religion.
Good luck,
Anne

Thanks for your advice Anne. I was having some difficulty with some of the links, but I will try to follow your steps. My grandfather was COI.......hopefully there is a filter for this to bring up half the entries. I am fairly certain that his birthdate was 1879.......but unfortunately, I am only guessing his birthplace. I had heard that he was from Northern Ireland and I remember the Belfast area being mentioned. I have put my message in the Antrim and Down message boards to cover this. Thanks again for your help! Any further advice would be very welcome.
