great great grandfather and grandmother came from blackrock  near your parish . gg granfather was born in 1791 and died in 1837 his name was bryan or bernard coleman.

my gg grandmother imigrated to the us in pennsylvania around the 1860's  her name was alice brennan coleman she was from an well to do family , which had a falling out when she married my gg grand father.

  would like help in locating more relatives

  • Our volunteer has come back with the following response:

     

    This one is easy. The ggmother was related to both the Staines and Stanley families of Dunleer. They were distantly related to Lord Bellingham. So marrying somebody who was in trade" as this man's surname would seem to suggest he was(Coleman translates to Coal Man) I.e. someone who went around with a cart selling coal or who was from a family who did so would not have considered a suitable match for their daughter.  More info on both families plus a complete family tree can be obtained from Burkes Peerage for a small fee.
