  • Ms. Doreen,

My Kidney family orginated from Middleton and a place called Carrigtohill, County Cork, Ireland. I discovered that from the cenus of Canada. John Kidney's wife, Mary (maiden name is Clark) might have roots there  too. I am not sure which came from which town.

    thank you

  • Hi Carole,

I found two records of John Kidney from the Middleton area  on Griffiths' Valuation which was a primary valuation of all premises carried out and published county to county between the years 1847 and 1854.  Have a look and see if it rings any bells.

  • Hi there

Have you any idea what part of Co. Cork your family came from.  Cork is the largest county in Ireland, so it would be helpful if you could narrow it down to a specific area.  Have a look at the 1901 and 1911 Cenus.  There are a lot of Kidneys listed.  Hope this helps.  If you have any more info let me know and I can have another look for you. If you want to search the census visit http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/

  • I looked in the Canadian Census of 1891, it shows John and his wife, Mary living in St. Malachie d'Ormstown Chateauguay, Quebec, Canada,  so I don't think they would be in the Irish census records in 1901.    They also spell name as Kietheny . In later reports I then see they must have changed it to KIDNEY. I will do some more reseach in Canada.

Don't forget me, you have been so sweet. I plan to be back on the Irish side as soon as I get more information of researching.

    thank you,
