HOSFORDS IN KILPEACON

From MacLysaght's The Surnames of Ireland:

Hosford - An English Toponymic of Cromwellian origin in Ireland since found in considerable numbers almost exclusively in Co. Cork.

There are three parishes where there are both HOSFORD and PARKER households found during the Griffith's Valuation:

Ballymodan Parish, Co Cork, 1 Hosford household, 1 Parker household

Kilbrogan Parish, Co Cork, 6 Hosford households, 1 Parker household

Holy Trinity Parish, Co Cork, 2 Hosford households, 1 Parker household

if you only consider HOSFORD households, there are 14 Parishes with 35 households

Abbeystrowry parish (1), Ballymodan (1),Creagh (2), Fanlobbus (1), Kilbrittain (1), Kilbrogan (6), Kilcrohane (3), Kinneigh (10), Kinsale (1), Knockavilly (1), Murragh (2), Rathclarin (1), Ringcurran (1), Templemartin (1)

and 2 households in Cork City in Holy Trinity parish.

From the townland directory of 1851 at www.seanruad.com  we can find the townland of Aghada in Co Cork where Joseph was born which is in Aghada civil parish.

From the Irish Times Ancestors site we can see the townland in Aghada parish are:

Aghada, Aghada Lower (town), Aghada Upper (town), Ballinbeg, Ballincarroonig, Ballynafarsid, Ballynookery, Ballysovane, Buckstown, Curragh, Farsid town, Glenbradagh, Hermitage, Knockanemorney, Mosestown, Peafield, Whitegate town

The Mallow Heritage Centre ahd the Baptisms searchable online from 1792 through 1895 and Marriages from 1785 through 1897.  See: http://corknortheast.rootsireland.ie/  Unfortunately, it appears that Aghada parish is in the South Cork area not searchable.  I checked for Joseph Hosford and no results showed  up. You can commission a research task here but it may be pricey. They really should have Joseph's birth and marriage church records here.

National Library of Ireland has the baptisms from 1815 through 1880 and the Marriages from 1838 through 1880 on their positive film 4990.  If you can get here and see pos. film 4990, you may be able to find HOSFORD births and marriages.  I think this is your best chance to find HOSFORDs siblings of Samuel to find Samuel's descendants who would be your cousins.  You may also be able to hire a researcher with Mallow experience. 

The Family History Library has NOT filmed these registers.

Hi Feakle,

Thanks for your message and the work you did. I am sure Samuel would have had siblings. Whether they ended up in the UK as Samuel did only some more research will tell. Hopefully someone else on this website is reserching the same Hosford family.
