Hi
Henry Vincent was High Sheriff of Kings County in 1882 (i think). He was also a Judge.
His family were owners 56 Mountjoy Square, a firm of solicictors, they owned Inane Estate near Roscrea. I think they owned Killarney House in Bray.
I can't see where they came from before the early 1800s and I don't know where they went in the 1900s.
They owned a famous Im looking for information on the Jackson family from Inane, Roscrea.
racehorse 'Velocity' that won lots in England at the turn of the last century.
many thanks in advance

Jackson, Henry Vincent, of Inane, Co. Tipperary was the eldest son of Williamm Henry Jackson, of Killarney House, Co. Wicklow, and of Mountjoy square Dublin. His mother was Cecilia, daughter of John Westropp, Justice of the Peace in Attyflin.
He was born in 1845 and in 1875 married Arabella, eldest daughter of Alexander Clothworthy Downing Leckie Edie. They had a son in 1880. Mr Jackson, who was educated at Trinity College, is a J.P, for County Tipperary and for King's Co. High Sheriff of King's County 1882, Inane, Roscrea; 12, Merrion Square West, Dublin; Inniscorrig Castle, Dalkey.
Here is some more information: http://landedestates.nuigalway.ie/LandedEstates/jsp/estate-show.jsp?id=3440
Representatives of Henry V. Jackson held the property in 1906 and it is still extant.
I will try to find out some more and if there are any Jacksons still living in the area.

In the 1911 census, Peter Warburton Jackson (23 and single) is living in the house:

Hi Dolores
many thanks for your help
i have some of that info already but the info on Arabella and the clothworthys is all new. I was fascinated looking at the 1911 census a few weeks ago that Peter was a young man in the house with no family but there were a lot of staff and Americans living there too.
i am most interested to find out where the jacksons went to. I know that mrs HV Jackson owned the famous horse Velocity (pictured) - he won a lot! The horse was bred in Roscrea. The horses hooves are preserved and kept at Fortwilliam House Roscrea but I'm not sure there is any Jackson link now.
The link with my family is my great great grandfather we'd Mabella jackson just after her father died. My family lived across the road from Inane but were not really wealthy so the marriage seems unusual.
I need to find out where did the Jacksons come from before arriving in inane?
Again thanks for all your help.

Hi there - I have a Mabella Jackson b. 18 Sep 1857 daughter of Robert Jackson and Marianne (nee Odlum) of Killavilla, Roscrea. I also have this woman marrying Richard Moyles a grocer, son of Richard Moyles (farmer) - they married on 14 Aug 1876 at St Cronan's Church of Ireland Roscrea. All of these records I have seen in the Parish records held by the local clergywoman. Don't suppose there could have been more than one Mabella Jackson could there ?
On checking my Jackson transcriptions there are baptisms for two daughters for the Inane Jackson family -
Louisa Diana Cecilia b. 26 Jun 1876 and matilda Josephine Marion b. 6 Oct 1877.
My great grandmother was a niece of the above Robert Jackson and was an executor of his will when he died in 1915.

Hi Alison
That's extremely helpful.
Something never added up for me with the Jacksons of Inane and my family - i suspect the fact the homes were opposite each other led previous researchers to put 1+1 together with 2 not being the answer.
So now I have a definite thread to follow which is fantastic. Mabella Jackson (nee Odlum) is my Great Great Grandmother.
If you don't mind I might get some more help from you.
Many Thanks
John

Hello John,
I checked with a volunteer in Roscrea who sent me the following: "
After a thorough search of the Church of Ireland records, no record or trace . . can be found of the subject in the Roscrea archives. However . . Adrien . . did think that it might be worthwhile to switch your attention to ' Dunkerrin'. Dunkerrin a a parish just south of Roscrea. I also found the following in Thom?s Irish Almanac 1880 and 1884 (Thom's Directories are an invaluable resource for researching family history. First published in 1844 by Alexander Thom, it is still being published today!):
- First Name: Henry V
- Last Name: Jackson
- Year: 1880
- Town: 56 Mountjoy Square, West And Inane, Roscrea
- Section: List Of Nobility, Gentry, Merchants And Traders, Public Offices
and
Henry Vincent Jackson
- Collection Description - Thom's Irish Almanac & Official Directory 1884
- Collections from Ireland
- County Dublin
- Year 1884
- Town 12 Merron Square, Nth, Inniscorrig Castle, Dalkey, And Inane, Roscrea
- This website may also be of interest: http://www.thesilverbowl.com/biographies/biographies.html. There is a link to here http://www.limerickcity.ie/media/06%2003%2043.pdf which notes the death of Henry Vincent Jackson Esq. at Bray in. Bray is south of Dublin, not too far from Dalkey, the address mentioned above in Thom's Directories.
