My ancestors lived in Boyle, Roscommon before coming to Australia in 1839.
They were Patrick John McDonough (born c.1790 to Thomas McDonough & Alice Forde)
& Catherine McCarthy ( born c.1785, Boyle to Dominic McCarthy & Catherine McLean).
Patrick John McDonough was a Land Surveyor ( as was his father Thomas). His birth place was listed as Boyle on his shipping records but it says he was born in Sligo on his death certificate.
Catherine McCarthy's father Dominic ( although it was Charles on her death Certificate)was a merchant.
They left from the port of Kingsdown on the 20th Sept 1839 on the ship Crusader arriving in Sydney, Australia 15th January 1840.
They brought their 5 children with them who were all born in Boyle.
Margaret born 1817
Bernard born 1818
John born 1821
Catherine born 1822
Thomas born 1827
That's about all I know of their origins so far.
I will be staying in Boyle this August so hope to be able to see where they came from.
cheers,
Kate

I have been to Boyle twice. It is a small and very freindly town and hope you have a wonderful journey. Hope you make some connections.
