I have a friend who is 78, born in New Zealand with an Irish father. She has never known the Irish side of her family and would like to. Her father was Francis Bernard Quinn, born in Castleconnell Town in 1898, father Thomas, mother Mary Anne (or Marianne), maiden name Kellaher. There were four siblings, two girls and two boys. They appear in the 1901 census but not in 1911.
They may have left the district early on and might have settled in Cork where Francis probably did his study and where he may have died, in 1957, in the care of his sisters.
So far I cannot trace any of the siblings and I wonder if someone could help me?
Thanks : )

Thomas Quinn the father of Francis Bernard was in the Royal Irish Constabulary (RIC). In 1901, he was a sergeant in the Castleconnell barrack. In 1911, he was the Head Constable in Bandon Co. Cork. Thomas was born in Co. Galway. It took me a while but I finally found the 1911 census for the family. The group that transcribed the census record, incorrectly transcribed Francis as Frances which made it difficult to locate the record. They were 7 children in total. Six of the seven were in the household in 1911. Mary Josephine was somewhere else. Looks like she was a boarder in a house on King St. in Cork City. See below.

hi Roger
thank you!!! that is so exciting. i remember seeing the Mary Josephine census document because of 'Minnie' the servant, but had no idea Mary Josephine was there. I was having so much trouble locating the family in that census. The information about the father is fabulous. I didn't hold much hope for finding information about him.
I want to trace at least one living relative, to verify the family details, and someone for my friend to contact herself. I am trying to track down marriage details for any of the children. Now that there are two more! (since 1901) perhaps this will help. They really seem to be elusive. Have tried all the leads I can think of. Would you know of any databases that might be good?
thanks SO much for your help. it's really getting intereresting : )

Becky:
You may want to try www.familysearch.org Look for marriage index records for the Quinn children post-1911.
If you find a record that has potential, you would need to write to the GRO www.groireland.ie to get a copy of the record.Fill out their form and provide the registration district, quarter/year of registration and the volume and page number.
