Catherine Murphy departed Cork, Ireland on 26th May 1836 aboard Duchess of Northumberland under Captain Roxburgh as Master and Superintendent, Dr. Robert Huntly as Surgeon. The ship of 541 tons carried 282 female and 37 male emigrants and arrived on 3rd October 1836 in Sydney there being no other ports of call. Catherine according to the shipping records was a dressmaker aged 22 years at the time of arrival. The shipping indent does not list a native place and I have been unable to locate her death which might also provide details of her birth place.

  • Hi,

Unfortunately Catherine Murphy is a very common name in Ireland a quick search showed  24 Catherine Murphy's born in 1814 if she was 22 at arrival.

Pity you can not locate her death information, but do you know if she married? A marriage cert might provide the names of the parents and then we can rule out some of the other Catherines

    Regards
