My great great grandparents are James & Mary Jane Farrelly.

James Farrelly was born in Lurgan, Ireland in approx 1860 his father was also named James Farrelly.  I know that in 1879 at the age of 20 James along with his brother Patrick Farrelly aged 21 arrived in Australia.

James Farrelly married Mary Jane Rock in Australia in 1885

Mary Jane Rock was also born in Ireland pprox 1864 her fathers name was Andrew Rock and she arrived in Australia with her family in 1877 at the age of 13.

I am trying to trace back their family history to Ireland.  I would be greatful for any information.

  • Hi Jody - I am the Reaching Out coordinator for Western County Cavan - Glangevlin, Blacklion, and Dowra. GRIFFITHS VALUATION shows who rented land in 1857. I did a Griffiths search for you for any  Farrlelly who is on Griffiths for County Cavan. I found a James and others who are in the townlands of Lurgananure and Lurganveele in the Cavan village of Killinkere. The first link below  is the link to  the master page of Griffiths (where you would type in FARRELLY in the LAST-NAME BOX and click CAVAN in the COUNTY PULL-DOWN box) . Here you see every Farrelly   who either rented land, or sub-leased part of their rented land. Now click on the magnifying glass, or on the record itself.  If you go to page 4, item # 67 - you will see the James in townland Lurgananure, followed by a few people who sub-leased from him.  You will also see 2 Patrick's who lease in the townland of Lurganveele.  The second link below will be to page # 4 itself. The third link would be James' record (#67).  Let me know that you can access these records, or let me know you are having trouble. I am glad to help.
