    Hi,

    Thank you for your message.

It is difficult to find records relating to people if you do not have a specific place of origin for them. Most Irish record sources- church records, land records, census records- are based on specific locations. Until you know a specific location within Ireland, preferably a parish or placename, it may be difficult to do anything more with these records.

As Coalisland has been mentioned to you, I would take this as a starting point and look at records there. Coalisland town actually belongs to two civil parishes in Tyrone: Donaghenry http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/townlands/index.cfm?fuseaction=TownlandsInCivil&civilparishid=2346&civilparish=Donaghenry&citycounty=Tyrone

    and Tullyniskan http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/townlands/index.cfm?fuseaction=TownlandsInCivil&civilparishid=2366&civilparish=Tullyniskan&citycounty=Tyrone

Please be aware before you start your search however, that the reality of finding documentation pertaining to births/baptisms/marriages/deaths in Ireland prior to 1800 ? particularly in rural areas ? is that they simply may not exist.

Catholic records for the area do not begin until c. 1820. you can see this on the Irish TImes website where they give an overview of what records are available and where copies of them can be found. For Donaghenry parish follow this link:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseaction=showidrecords&CityCounty=Tyrone&parish=Donaghenry&churchid=187

For Dungannon (the Catholic parish that Tullyniskan belongs to) follow this link:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseaction=showidrecords&CityCounty=Tyrone&parish=Dungannon&churchid=214

Most surviving Church of Ireland records are still held by the local clergy, although some are in the National Archives of Ireland and others are in the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin. Here are their websites: http://www.nationalarchives.ie/ and http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42

Lists of these surviving registers can also be found at the National Library of Ireland.

Have you tried looking into the family?s emigration for more information? Sometimes more information was given at the port of arrival rather than that of departure so it may be a good idea to look into this. For information on US immigration records check the National Archives at http://www.archives.gov/research/immigration/

Some other websites that may be helpful are:

The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/

The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx

The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/

The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm

You could also try contacting the Irish World Heritage Centre in Tyrone for some assistance, however a fee may apply. Here is their email: info@irish-world.com

Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

    Kind regards,

    Genealogy Support

Greetings! My name is Bill Van Horn.  I live in Cape May County, New Jersey United States. John W. Lovett is my 4th Great Grandfather.  He was born,in 1783 in Tyrone, County Tyrone, Ireland.  This Lovett Family religion is Catholic.  He (John W.) married Isabella McBride in County Tyrone, Ireland about 1821 or 1822.  They had two children born in County Tyrone, Ireland. My 3rd Great Grandfather, Alexander H. Lovett born in 1832, County Tyrone, Ireland. Alexander had an older sister, Catharine Lovett born in 1831, County Tyrone, Ireland.  I believe Alexander also had an older brother, John Lovett, born in Scotland in 1825.

The Lovett Family and McBride Family immigrated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States in 1833. Most of my direct Lovett ancestors resided in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Camden, New Jersey. The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Lovett's are buried in Cathedral Cemetery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  The New Jersey Lovett's are buried in various New Jersey cemeteries in Camden County and Burlington County, New Jersey.

My father lost his mother, Grace L. Wright in 1947, she was the daughter of Helen Ellen Catharine Lovett born 1882 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, married Frederick Wright (born in Germany) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1900.  Ellen Catharine Lovett died in 1953.

I am interested in learning the history about my early Lovett/McBride ancestors. Any pictures of them or the areas they came from would be of great interest.

In addition to Ireland, I believe my Lovett family ancestors also lived in Scotland.

I hope to visit Ireland, England and Scotland in the near future. Perhaps I can connect with family.

    Best wishes to all.

    Bill Van Horn
