Hi Am searching for any Irish family of my ggrandfather Hugh Moloney who was baptised in Apr 1863 in Imogeela, Glenane County Cork.
His parents were William Moloney and Mary Donovan, who we think were married at the Roman Catholic Church in Conna, Cork 28 Feb 1856.
There were 8 children:
Maurice, John, Margaret, Mary, Bridget, Hugh, William and Michael.
I Know that Maurice, John and Hugh emigrated to Australia pre 1888, I believe Michael may have died as a child, that William emigrated to USA and am unsure what happened to any of the other family members - all the girls.
I would really love to know if any of the family descendants are still in Ireland.
Thank you Cate Friedrichs

Hi Cate,
I am just wondering if you have visited Ireland and done some research here?
I am aware there was some people here a few years ago researching the same family. I met them at the time and was in touch for a good whileafter. I have some information on the family which i will share with you once i locate it !!!!. I know i saw the envelope with the information in the last few weeks but when i went to look for it now i have failed to find it.
I thought i would reply to you and can look for it to-morrow. There were 2 Moloney families in Glenane at the same time and if memory serves me right i think the people that were here were having difficulty connecting in to the families. Ages and time frames were wrong.
Yo can look at the Irish census for 1901 and 1911 free at www.nationalarchives and see what names show up for those years. The 1911 gives the number of children born to the family and the no. still living. It does not say where they are living.
Regards for now. Keep in touch. Anne.

Hi Anne
Thanks so much for your reply.
I haven't been to Ireland searching for the family so I am now intrigued as to whom it might have been.
The information I have is from a now deceased descendant of John Moloney, which he sent me many years ago.
I have tried looking at the census information but can't tie anyone definitely to the family. As I think most of those that remained in Ireland were my ggrandfather's sisters, any change in surname is also a complication.
I will keep my fingers crossed that you locate the envelope and will wait for your reply.
Thanks so much for your help.
Regards Cate

Hi Cate,
I did not get a chance yet to look for the information but if you look at the census for 1901 and 1911 for Moloneys in the townland of Drominane you will see the 2 families.
What i was saying about the information the people who were here was not fitting in can be seen clearly as the children who have the same names as your family are all still here in both 1901 and 1911!!!!!
Regards for now. Keep in touch. Anne.

Hi Anne
I searched the Drominane townland census as you suggested without putting in any ages....and you are right. There is a family with nearly all the same names, just different parents and ages.
I know that this isn't my Hugh Moloney's family...he and John were definitely here in Australia in 1901.
i am wondering though if the Heads of the 2 Moloney familes listed might be brothers as William and Maurice certainly seem to be family names. William is the right age and perhaps remarried. I will follow this line of thought and see where it takes me.
Thanks again for your help, and other information you come across would be much appreciated.
Best regards Cate

Hi Cate,
Still no look with finding the information!!!! but have found a single sheet of an e-mail which may be of use to you.
It appears it was some of John's family were here. Looking at what i have it seems John had a family of George,Hugh (Bob), William, Michael, John, Thomas, Doris, Maurice, Walter, Ernest (Roy) and Sabina.
His wife was Sabina nee Storen. I was sent a photo circa 1912 of the family.
It is a Roy who has been in ouch with me and Ernest(Roy) is his Dad.
It was a Michael grandson of Michael who was over here.
John Moloney senior died in 1942.
I will forward the 3 emails i seem to have kept from Roy direct to you and hopefully you can make direct contact with Roy. It was in 2008 they were here.
I meant to ask you if you have any death certificates for the early family members? As far as i am aware these give the mothers maiden name and maybe a place of origan.
Regards for now. Keep in touch. Anne.
