Hi, 

I am looking for my ancestors, Patrick J. MCGEE, born in the Dublin area about 1832 and his wife, Bridget SWEETMAN, also born around 1832 in Rowens(her parents maybe John and Mary Sweetman). Patrick and Bridget married in the Dublin area in 1852 and left for the US that same year. They settled first in New York and then Dayton, OH. I believe Bridget had brothers who also came to the US, and I know one of them was Richard Sweetman. I don't have any information on Patrick's family.

My information comes from the family Bible in my possession, obits from Dayton, OH papers, and family oral tradition. I have also searched on ancestry.com.

Thank you so much for your help,  my mother searched for years without success for more information on these ancestors and I would so like to find their families and maybe distant relatives in Ireland(I have much Irish heritage but not much information, especially not where they all came from specifically).

    There is a baptism record on www.irishgenealogy.ie (free site) that has a baptism record for a Bridget  Sweetman.

    There are a lot of Sweetman records on this site, I suggest you check them out, unfortunately no record for John McGee, suggest you also try the spelling Magee and also post on our Dublin message board, the local volunteers might know more about  St Michaels and John's Parish in Dublin

  • Hi Dawn;

    A Catharine Sweetman from the Lusk area was married to my great granduncle James Monks (b.1849) of The Nevitt. I have photographs of them both, and a record of their being sponsors at the christening of my great uncle in 1887. I seem to recall other people by the name of Sweetman in my searches through the Monks family in that area. Let me know if these are of interest to you, and I'll forward them.
