hi,
I wonder if anyone here is researching its ROCHE family from Feagh, Abbeyknockmoy ??... My g-Grandfather Brian ROCHE 1855-1892 had siblings and I do not know what happened to them... They were born during and after the Famine years between 1849 and 1866, so I guess some may not have survived; and some may have emigrated ??... The Parents were Martin ROCHE and Mary MORGAN 1830-1868... Children: Bridget b.1849, John b.1851, Thomas b.1853, Brian b.1855, Martin b.1863, Bernard 1866-1885... There may have been other children, I don't know unfortunately ??... Regards, SEAN

My Grandmother Bridget Roche was born in Tuam, She immigrated to the states in 1927, she was the daughter of Michael Francis Roche( 1868-1952) and Bridgit Murphy (1885-1979), Michael Roche was the son of Bernard Roche and Mary Dowde, but I have no information about when or where Bernard was born.

hi,
re: Bridget Roche immigrated to the states in 1927
Where abouts in the States ??
Did she go to family in the US - that was usually the case ??
My Grandfathers siblings emigrated to New York between 1903-1910.
Martin, Patrick, Delia, and Mary.
There was also a cousin Delia who emigrated in 1915.
Maybe she went to one of them ??

hi,
In Griffiths valuation of Galway in 1855 there are only two Roche families mentioned living in the Parish of Abbeyknockmoy...
Roche, Bryan - Feagh East - Abbeyknockmoy - Galway...
Roche, Martin - Feagh East - Abbeyknockmoy - Galway...http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/galway/abbeyknockmoy.htm
Martin had 2 plots of land, and there was a house on each of the three plots.
My g-grandfather who farmed at FEAGH was Bryan 1855-1892, and his marriage certificate states his Father was Martin.
Martin was born in the 1820s, did he have a Brother Bernard who lived in the third house ??
I am afraid I don't know, but Martin did call one of his sons Bernard 1866-1885
If your g-Grandfather Micheals birth certificate says he was born in FEAGH, then we are related.
The name Bridgit is also in my family through the generations as well.
Interestingly there were Murphys living in Abbeyknockmoy in 1855, maybe Michael married Bridgit and they farmed land leased by her MURPHY family ??
My g-grandfather was not the eldest son and he farmed land owned by his Father-in-Law John QUINN to begin with. He only ended up back in Feigh when his eldest brother died.

A birth certificate would show the name of the Townland the Parents were living.
In MAR 1901 living at Dangan, Oughter (Moyne, Galway) is the 60yo Widow Mary ROCHE with 3 children, Michael is not there.
