I would like information about Christopher Toole and Mary Saunders, my great grandparents, who had children in Wexford (they moved about but I know that they lived in Kilmuckridge and Litterbeg). Their daughter Elizabeth was born in 1886. Other children were John, Patrick and Bridget. I would like to contact relations and know more about the family.

Hi,
Thank you for your message.
Civil registration began in Ireland officially in 1864, so given Elizabeth was born in 1886, you should be able to find her birth record and her parents? marriage records in civil records. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. Here is their website:
http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm
You can search the indexes to these records up to 1958 online at:
https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1408347
Depending on when Christopher and Mary were born it may also be possible to find their own birth records in civil records. However, if they were born before 1864, their birth records will be in their local parish church's records. This means that you really have to know what parish they were born in if you want to find the records as most of these are still held locally. There are some church records available online, however these collections are not complete:
www.familysearch.org has a huge database of genealogical records including some church records for Ireland.
www.rootsireland.ie have a large collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.
One other websites that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For parishes in Co. Wexford check:
http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/counties/rcmaps/wexfordrc.htm
Have you tried checking the 1901/1911 census records for information? If you haven't already done so, here is the link:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/
Some other websites that you may find useful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx

I hope that some of this is helpful. Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,
