Looking for Tully's and Gavil (place name)

I would like to clarify that Owen and Catherine Tully (mentioned above) may have been the parents of Patrick Sr and Bartly.  The John I mentioned was probably the son of Patrick Sr.  Both John and Patrick Jr named their first children Owen and Catherine (born 1849 to 1857).

I also have ancestors who lived in Tully. By the sounds of it you know where Tully is situated. In 1938 it was described as having seven houses one slated 21 inhabitants - three over 40 years. Land poor. One large hill in the townland - remainder lowlying.

In 1901, the people living in Tully were Giblin, Finerty, Finnerty (variant), Feenaghty (also variant), Kerane, Concannon, Coen, Dockery, McDermott, Goff, Irwin, Higgins, O'Hara, Flynn, McGovern, Beattie, Glynn and Donnellan.

In 1911, most the families are the same there were also McDonagh, Brennan, Crowley and McGarry.

During Griffiths Valuation, Hon & very Rev. Henry Pakenham, Michael Coyne, Michael Higgins, Bryan Higgins, Patrick Goff, Elizabeth Feenaghty, Thomas Feenaghty, Patrick Feenaghty, Patrick Feenaghty, James Feenaghty, John Giblin, William Feenaghty, Martin Giblin, Luke Glynn, Patrick Feenaghty, Richard Copely, Hugh King, James O'Hara, Catherine McGovern and Owen Concannon. Hon & very Rev. Henry Pakenham owned most of the land but one property was owned by Michael Coyle, one owned by Martin Giblin and two owned by William Feenaghty.

My ancestors are the Finnerty (or Feenaghty) and Concannon.

There are no Tullys living there in either of these time periods.

I couldn't find the townland of Tully in the Tithe Applotment Books but I could find Tullymubunan and Tullymulrman. I don't know if these are the same as Tully but I don't see any of my ancestors in these. Do you know anything about this?

Thank you for writing.  I have now discovered there are 6 Tully townlands in Co Roscommon.  The one where you found your relatives (Feenaghty) is in Kilcorkey parish.  The one I was referring to is in Tibohine civil parish.  However, I'm not absolutely sure I have the right Tully townland for my own family -- I just found that one and it seemed like the right location.

As regarding Tullymubunan and Tullymalrman (in the Tithes), I think these two names were probably combined into Tully for the Griffiths Valuation.  I have seen similiar things happen with other townlands I've been looking at.

There's someone in the Castlemore parish (Roscommon) who has answered a couple of my questions about place names and he seems to be very knowledgeable about this.  I would recommend writing to him!  His name is Roger McDonnell and his Roscommon IRO address is Castlemore.

Thank you very much for sending the graveyard information!  The old stone of Derrynacong family is very interesting!

I'm hoping to make a connection between the Tully's on the Co Roscommon line (such as in Derrynacong) and the Tully's of Cornacarta (my family), as I explained in my first message.

In studying the list, I see that Patricia Tully in Ballyhaunis graveyard, has the address "Erritt".  I didn't find this address  in Mayo but I did see that the last name Erritt existed in the area because there is a Ellen Regan Healy Erritt buried in Aghamore Cemetary (1929).  But I don't know if the name and the address would have a relationship. 

However, I found a townland called Errit (spelled with one t, inTibohine parish, Co Rosc) in the Griffiths Val, on the north border of Tully (Tullyartagh?) townland.  It's  on the Roscommmon/ Mayo border so I'm wondering if this is the same place.  (Tully townland has Errit Lough on northern border.)

 Michael Tully (died 1972), was in Kilmovee graveyard.  I see that Raherolish (or Raherolus?) is also on the Mayo/Roscommon border,  farther north of Tully townland, so I'm interested in this person also.

Do you think that the address Erritt (Ballyhaunis graveyard) is the same one as Errit (with one t) in Tibohine parish, Co Rosc?).

PS.  Although I have found Errit (Tibohine parish) in Griffith's Val, I can't find any townland with this name in the Tithe books!
