As a new member of the Irelandxo project I have a question on your DNA database. I have had my DNA tested with the Family DNA project located in Houston Texes. Is this company compatible with your DNA database? The reason I picked the County Cork message board is my GGF James O'Connell (father James) born about 1830 listed his place of birth as County Cork on his declaration of intention to become a USA citizenship Oct 17, 1856. My GGM Ellen Cecelia Cronin (father John) worked as maid on the lands of Butlerstown for Hath C. Martin in a testimony I have dated April 8, 1851.

  • Thank you for your message.

We are working with people in Ireland to build up a better DNA atlas of each parish and area. This is a project that we have just undertaken and we are now searching for people in Ireland who have at least 8 great grandparents from one local area in order to map the DNA of Ireland and its people.

This project will take time to develop and map. We will post the results on our site (without names etc) so that you can see the DNA make up of particular areas in Ireland.

This will take some time (12-18 months). I would wait a while until we have mapped parts of Ireland and you can see the kind of data available.

Again thank you for your interest and feedback.

    Kind regards
