My great, great grandmother, Catherine Cullen, was from Ballinguile, Wickliow.  She was born around 1828 and Roman Catholic.  I am trying to find out who her parents were and if there is a marriage record for her and husband, Mathew O'Brien.  Catherine immigrated to the U.S. around 1850.

Any information is appreciated.

Thank you,

Jackie

  • Hi Jackie,

I too am researching Cullen.  My 4th great grandmother was a woman by the name of Elizabeth Cullen, who married Thomas Wilkinson.  I don't know where my Cullens were from, but Wicklow is one of the possibilities.  I do know of someone researching Wilkinsons from Wicklow!  My Elizabeth is old enough to be your ancestors great aunt...family connection perhpas?

  • Hi Ross,

My O'Brien side is still a mystery.  I am not sure if my great, great grandfather Mathew O'Brien, born about 1830, is from Wicklow or another county in Ireland.  According to a U.S. census, he immigrated to the U.S. in 1850.  I cannot find any parents or siblings for him.

  • Perhaps.  A lot of Cullens were from Wicklow.  I believe my Catherine Cullen is related to a Mathew Cullen, born about 1816, from Ballinguile, Wicklow.  He is either a brother or uncle.  His brothers were Edward and James.  Both Mathew and Catherine Cullen lived in Connecticut for a short time before moving to Ohio with their respective families.
