My family's oral history says my great-great-great grandfather William Truland came from County Antrim. I have the original naturalization paper which documents he was naturalized in 1836 in Schaghticoke, Rensselaer County, New York. Based on my understanding of naturalization laws at the time, he must have emigrated to the US no later than 1822. Census records show he was born in about 1795. I also have a poetry book by a John Troland of Norwich, Connecticut, with an inscription to my great grandfather Frederick W. Truland, William's grandson, written in 1915. The 1920 US census says John Troland of Norwich emigrated to the US in 1859 and was naturalized in 1865. Other documents have different dates, but of most interest is that his birthplace, and the birthplace of both his parents, is listed as "Balamony". I've since searched various genealogy sites and found several references to Trolands in Ballymoney. The one of most interest, found on the Ballymoney Ancestry site, is a John Troland, who was a member of the Church of Ireland, and who lived there in 1766. There is no further information.
I'd greatly appreciate any leads that could point me to William Truland's family in Ballymoney.
