My grandmother was Mary Mangan (Baxter) (b. 17/03/1874, Dooagh). Her family came to Paisley, Scotland in the late 1800's. Parents were Michael Mangan and Mary Mangan. She had three sisters - Bridget (Kennedy), Anne (Brown) and Sarah (Leitch).
My 2nd great grandparents were Martin Mangan and Sarah Gavin, and John Mangan and Catherine Lavelle. I don't have exact dates, but would imagine they were all born between 1800-1820 in the same area.
Would like to hear from anyone with a connection to this family.

Hi Jacqueline,
Achill Island is a beautiful place so I hope you get to visit the home of your ancestors some day!
I have attached what I could find. You can purchase www.rootsireland.ie records for a couple of dollars each on the site.
There are a few family trees on ancestry as you probably know which have John Mangan & Catherine Lavelle (list attached).
There were lots of Mangans in Achill on the Griffiths Valuation - it's free to search on askaboutireland.ie.
I've attached a sample page.
Best regards

My grandmother was Anne Mangan from Achill, who moved to Dunbartonshire, Scotland. She died before I was born. Her niece, Bridget Mangan also came to Scotland and lived near us. I am told we are related to the Mangans who died in the Bothy fire in Kirkintilloch. I'd appreciate any information as I hope to visit Achill in the next 12 months.
best regards

Hi Tom
The fire was 1937. I'm assuming the 3 Mangan boys who died in it, John, Thomas & Michael were brothers and that they would have been born around 1890 - 1900?
I found 3 brothers on www.rootsireland.ie who seem to fit: parents are John Mangan & Mary home address Dooagh & parish Achill R C.
John 1892 Thomas 1900 & Michael 1899; assuming the parents were in their twenties, John would have been born about 1865 - 70.
Now you need to give me an approximate birth year for Anne & Bridget.

Hi Jacqueline
Suspect we have a link, my great great grandmother was Bridget Mangan, married Edward Welsh in Mayo.
They moved to Paisley and a daughter, Mary Welsh was born 1858.
She married James Lavelle b.1854 in Paisley in 1878 - he went over from Achill,

I read about the Kirkintilloch tragedy yesterday, the anniversary.
Nine of the ten boys were teenagers aged 13-19. John McLoughlin was 23. Michael Mangan was 13, Thomas 15 and John 17. They were from Pollagh. A sister of the Mangan boys was present. The girls and young women were sleeping in a cottage and escaped.
