Hello,
My great grandmother Ellen Cassidy was born in Drishane 11 May 1854, her father was Jeremiah and her mother was Joanna Coakly. Any additional information would be wonderful.

Hi Dan,
Thank you for your message. I hope that someone with information on the family makes a connection with you and helps you to further your research. In the meantime here are some resources:
Church Records:
Civil registration did not begin in Ireland until 1864. Prior to this all records of births/deaths/marriages were kept by the local parish church so it may be an idea to look at these records for information. Fortunately, records in Caheragh begin as early as 1818:
Also, these records have been made available online at Irish Genealogy:

Civil Records:
Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864 so any births, deaths or marriages in the family after this date would be recorded in these records also. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office. Here is their website:

You can search the indexes to these records up to 1958 online at:

Land Records:
You could also check for record of the family in the land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century. There are two:
The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
and Griffith?s Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
Census Records:
