I am looking for information on my Great-Grandparents, both born in the Clonmany area. They were both born before most records were kept. I would like to find out more about their dates and places of birth as well as those of their parents and any other relatives.
Daniel J. Kelly was born in Annagh, either 1816 per his Boston Death Certificate or possibly Feb. 1822 per 1900 a Boston Census. He married Mary Diver (Dever) in 1857 in Clonmany, Donegal. Daniel died in 1906 in Boston, MA.
Daniel’s father was also named Daniel Kelly, possibly born 1802 in Annagh, Donegal. He died in1887 in Clonmany, Donegal .
His mother was Fannie (Margaret) Doherty. She was possibly born 1802 in Donegal, and she died in 1867
I have no confirmable information on Daniel’s siblings even though I do have the names of other Kellys from Annagh in about the same time frame. I also have names from the 1901 & 1911 Censuses.
Mary Diver (Dever) was born in 1841 (per her Boston Death Certificate) in Eightercluna, Urris, Clonmany Donegal. She married Daniel Kelly on 22 Feb. 1857 in Clonmany, she died 30 Dec. 1892 in Boston.
Mary’s father was William Diver, possibly 1808-1880. Her mother was Ellen Gibbons (Gubbin). I think that she died in 1892 in Letter, Clonmany, Donegal
Mary Diver’s Siblings from Family info were:
Ellen possibly born 1837 married Michael Doherty
Hugh born 1840, I believe that he married Ellen Duffy in Boston, MA, he died in 1910 in Boston, MA
John (Owen) possibly born 1853, he married Mary Doherty
Patrick possibly born 1849, he married Anne (Nancy) McCarron
William possibly born 1853 possibly born 1853 in Clonmany, he married Margaret Harrell (Herold?).
Celia possibly born 1854,she married Edward McGonigle
Quinton born 1860, he married Ellen Doherty
Bridget born about 1859, she married James Mullen, shedied in 1910 in Boston, MA
Philip possibly born 1862, married Margaret Farren
The Children of Daniel Kelly & Mary Diver, all born in Annagh were:
Daniel J. born 27 June 1858, he arrived in Boston in Aug. 1882, he died in 1888 in Boston.
William J. born 1860 or 1862, he arrived in Boston in 1882, William died in 1903 in Boston;
Mary Ann born 1862, arrived in Boston in 1885, she married Hugh C. Toland, she died in 1946 in Boston.
Ellen born 1865 ,Ellen she died in 1885 Boston.
Frances (Fanny) born 1868, arrived in Boston in 1885, she married James Duffy, , she died in 1956 in Boston.
Patrick again, who was born and died in 1871
Bridget (Bertha) M. born 872, arrived in Boston in 1885, married William T. Hurley in Boston, she died 1964 in Boston.
Margaret born 1875 , she arrived in Boston in1885, married Neal Doherty in Clonmany
Hugh J. born 1875, arrived in Boston in 1885, died in 1917
John F. born 1881, arrived in Boston in 1885, died in 1937 in Boston.
Any information or ideas on where to get more information about the family in the early 1800's or before would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi,
Thank you very much for your message. I hope that someone with information on the family makes a connection with you and helps you to further your research.
Unfortunately, it can be difficult to find records that early as the reality of finding documentation pertaining to births/baptisms/marriages/deaths in Ireland prior to 1800 ? particularly in rural areas ? is that they simply may not exist.
Catholic records for Clonmany do not start until 1852:
I did do a search for Kelly in Clonmany parish in the Tithe Applotment Books. These are land records compiled 1823-37. There is a Daniel recorded in 1827:
It may be an idea to contact Donegal Ancestry to see what other records may be available for the parish, however a fee may apply. Here is their email: info@donegalancestry.com
In the meantime here are some other websites that you may find useful:

Emma,
Please note that Donegal Ancestry are no longer in existence. The centre in Ramelton closed for business some time ago.
Should anyone look for information in Donegal with regard to tracing their ancestors, I can help. In the absence of Donegal Ancestry, you can use Irish Ancestral or Clonmany Genealogy for research purposes. Contact information is below:

Hi Jennifer,
Thank you very much for letting me know. I have added the Clonmany Genealogy website to our list of resources for Donegal and removed Donegal Ancestry.
