Researching the Allen Family of Castletown Geoghan, John Allen and Mary Cronley my G.G. Grandparents . The Allens emigrated on the "Shalimar "to the port of Melbourne in the English Colony of Victoria , and then on to the English Colony of Van Diemans Land in 1864 . John and Mary married in Castletown Geoghan on 13/02/1831 , and had six children , Richard, Elicia, Rose, John , Patrick ,and Edward . . Shipping records show Mary Allen and her two sons Edward and John , arrived in Van Diemans Land on 23/01/1864 , and thier original Portof departure was Liverpool.

In the meantime have you tried looking in church records for information? Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. It also shows you where copies of the records are available.
