Information on McBride Family

The rootsireland site appears to have a record of the marriage in 1846. (pay to view). There?s no trace of any of the couple?s children being born in Termonaguirk. Tradition was to marry in the bride?s church and so it may be that Patrick normally lived in a different parish. Or that they moved after they married. I think in this case it was that he lived in a  different parish, and they lived there after marriage.

I searched for Peter?s baptism on rootsireland and he was baptised 8^th Feb 1854 in the RC parish of Errigal Kieran which is the next parish immediately south from Termonaguirk. The family address at the time was Tirnaskea. You can search for the other Irish born children and perhaps you will find them too. My guess is that Peter?s home was Tirnaskea. The parish records only appear to start in 1834, so it may not be possible to confirm his baptism, though you might find any siblings born after 1834. If so, that should give you his likely parents. (So you would be searching for McBride baptisms in Tirnaskea).

Griffiths Valuation for Tirnaskea in 1860 lists a James McBride living there. Perhaps a relative of Patrick?s? James had a small farm (plot 8)  consisting of a farmhouse, outbuildings and 16 and a quarter acres of land. Nearby were an Arthur and Mary McBride who each had a farmhouse, (plots 3a & 3b) and they shared outbuildings and just under 29 acres of land. A moderate sized farm for the area. Arthur & Mary?s farms today are on the Whitebridge Rd. James? is close by on the Martray Rd, a mile or two north of Ballygawley.

In the 1901 census, there were two McBride farms in Tirnaskea. Their ages might make them brothers to the Patrick who married Ann Kelly.

I found this probate file for John McBride who died intestate in 1927. The full file should be held in PRONI, Belfast but is not on-line. They?ll send you a copy (for a fee).

Full Abstract :

McBride John of Tirnaskea county Tyrone farmer died 6 November 1927 Administration Londonderry 19 December to Ceciliea Harris married woman. Effects ?88 10s.

You can follow through from the initial Griffiths Valuation in 1860, to see changes in occupants, right up to 1929, using the revaluation records. The site?s a bit fiddly to get the hang of. There are later records up to the 1960s, again in PRONI but they are not on-line.

Going backwards, the next set of records to search would be the tithe applotment records (1820 & 1830s) which were compiled for tax purposes, but which list all agricultural land. And so you should be able to find who was head of household for the various farms at that time from that source. Those for Tyrone are not on-line and a personal visit is generally required to PRONI to look them up.

Re Hollywood /Kelly,
I have been reading a book by Peter Kerr (Innishatieve Carrickmore or Termonmaguirke as it was known in the 1800's}
There is reference to a Hollywood/Kelly marriage....Owen Hollywood, Greencastle married Isabel Kelly..does not give date but on reading the details I would say it was approximately1825/35.
Peter Kerr's book is on the internet...
