Hi! I am John Scott and have just joined up . I am a 67 year old retired teacher living near Melbourne Australia. I have been researching my family history and have recently discovered that my mother's paternal grandmother was Bridget Murphy nee Minogue. I do not know a lot about her except that she was born in Galway about 1850.Her father was Patrick Minogue ("farmer") and her mother Mary Toohey (Tuohy?). I am not certain when she arrived in Australia, but do know that she married Thomas William Murphy (born St. John's Newfoundland Canada, about 1847) in St Francis' RC Church, Melbourne on 21/03/1874 .
I discovered a reference to a Bridget Minogue in a Petty Sessions Court case in what could have been "Ballynakill" 13/04/1863 and am wondering if this might be my ancestor.
I would be grateful if anyone is able to offer advice to help me find her origins.
Regards from
John Scott

John:
I went to www.rootsireland.ie which has the Griffiths Valuation for free but you have to pay to see baptismal or marriage records. I identified all of the Patrick Minogues in Galway in this listing from 1856. There was one from Ballynakill civil parish who lived in Coos South townland. I then listed out the entire Griffiths for Ballynakill ( link below the names) and found that there were many Tuohys in the parish including in Coos South and Coos North townlands. Looks like this may be the area where Bridget emigrated from.

My Motherinlaw came from this area and what many take for granted and others do not know is that the name Bridget often is used interchangebly with the name Delia. Check under both names/
