I'm looking for any information or living relatives of Roseann Hagan, Susan Hagan, William John Hagan. Their parents are John Hagan and Ann Donnelly. Roseann and William emigrated to the US. Susan remained in Ireland and married Patrick McGovern in 1890. William returned to Ireland, but Roseann stayed and is buried in New York City. William, Susan, and Patrick are buried in St. John's cemetery, Galbally.

I know that Patrick McGovern was a Spirit Grocer from the 1901 census. He died in 1908 and his wife Susan took over the business. From what I've been told, there is a pub in Cappagh Village, Co. Tyrone, that used to be owned by a 'Hagan'.

Any information related to these individuals will be a great help in my 'family puzzle', and is greatly appreciated.

  • My family is from Lurgylea which is right next to Cappagh.

My father tells me that his Aunty (Maggie or maybe Alice) married a Hagan and they moved to Philadelphia/Pennsylvania along with at least two of his uncles.  My dads father remained with the farm living with his mother (this can be seen in the 1901 and 1911 census surveys).  She did return once, it would have been around 1915-25 but after that all communication was lost and nothing has been heard of since.

Actually in Dungannon there is a bar called Hagans and apparently there is a connection, well there is according to my father.  He is 81 and left the area and moved to England in the 50's.

Dont know if this is the same Hagan

Unfortunetly there is now no one left from my fathers or earlier generations, in Ireland so we dont have any further info.

    Hope this was some help.

  • Thanks for the info. Not sure if there's a connection to the family I'm looking for, but at least it's a possibility. I'll have to check it out.

  • Robert,

Thanks for the offer, but I don't have much info to look up anything yet. All I know of the family is that of the several children of John & Anne (Donnelly) Hagan, Susan remained in Ireland and married Patrick McGovern. Patrick was a Spirit Grocer in the 1901 census. He died in 1908 and his wife Susan took over the business. From what I've been told, there is a pub in Cappagh Village, Co. Tyrone, that used to be owned by a 'Hagan'.

    Thanks again,

    Allison

  • Alison, I realise this post was several years ago, but just wondering if you got any info on Susan Hagan? My mother is Susan Hagan's grand daughter (mum is 86). She recently asked me to find out more info re the Hagans and when I started my search, your post came up straight away?

  • Hello JoW!

So yes I have some info on Susan Elizabeth Hagan. I don't know how much info you have or need but here is what I have.

She was born 9 May 1869, died 5 Sep 1934. Her parents are John Hagan & Ann Donnelly. She married Patrick McGovern, 29 Nov 1890. Patrick was b: abt 1853, d: 22 Oct 1908. Patrick was a Constable of R.I.C. (noted on marriage transcription). If you have an Ancestry .com account, there are a family trees with Susan, Patrick, and their families.

    They had the following children:

    Michael, 10 Apr 1892

    Mary, 23 May 1893

    Josephine, 12 Jul 1896

    Julia, 14 Jun 1898

    Teresa, 11 Jul 1900

    Patrick, 7 Feb 1902

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can help with something else.

  • Hi Jo,

I am in Michigan, USA. I am not directly related to Susan Hagan. Her sister Roseann came to the US abt 1886 and lived in Manhattan, NYC. She married Patrick Edward Rogers in 1895. Patrick Rogers is somehow related (either nephew or cousin) to my 2x Great Grandmother Rose Rogers Murphy. I found her, the family, and parents while researching my family.

I meant to add this to the last message. It's a family tree on Ancestry with Susan Hagan.
