John Nelson from County Cavan

Seeking information on John Nelson from County Cavan, born around 1813. John immigrated to Canada and by 1837 he was living in St. Sylvestre Lotbiniere County Quebec when he married his first wife Helen Lowans. He married his second wife Rachel Baynes in 1839 in St. Sylvestre. John and Rachel had 10 children (Robert Richard, William, Mary Anne, Eliza, Margaret, John, Suzannah, Thomas, and Sarah Jane) born in St Sylvestre. John died on 12 Nov 1884 in St. Sylvestre. His death record states that he was from Country Cavan Ireland, and this is the only information I have regarding the Irish origins of the family.

I suspect that John's father was Robert Nelson of Ireland. I also believe he had brothers William and Joseph also lived in St. Sylvestre. The Nelson's were Protestant Church of England.

William Nelson (my gr-gr-grandfather) was born around 1815 in Ireland. He lived in Quebec city in 1845 when he married Eliza Irvin. William and Eliza had 7 children (Robert, Mary, Elizabeth, Margaret, Joseph, Samuel, and James). They moved to St. Sylvestre around 1949 and lived there until 1875 when they moved to North Stratford NH. William died in North Stratford on 7 July 1899. His death record identifies his father as Robert Nelson of Ireland. William is buried in Baldwin Cemetery, in the same family plot as John's son William.

Joseph Nelson was born around 1811 in Ireland. In 1851 he was enumerated in the Canadian census in St. Sylvestre with his wife Elizabeth (Betsy) Armstrong and also with William and Eliza Nelson's family. No children that I know of.
