I'm trying to find any information about my great grandfather's family. He was born in Gortnagarn. His name is Samuel Hugh Potter. His parents were James Potter and Nancy McIver. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Bobbi,
There is a record of the marriage of James Potter to - McIvor 1871 in Tyrone on www.rootsireland.ie/
The record will cost to view but will give you the fathers' names and the parish.
You can then check on Griffiths Valuation (1856-64 free to search) & the Tithe Applotments (freely avaialble (1823-37)to see where they were

Col,
Thank you for your help, I am very sorry it took me so long to respond to your message. The last 4 months have been crazy busy for me. I have just found the record you were talking about, but I didn't know about the Griffiths Valuation or the Tithe Applotments. I will get back on the rootsireland.ie website and poke around those two items.
Again, Thank You for your help.

Robert,
I'm sorry for the slow reply. I retired the end of June and moved cross country in July. I'm not even sure what I need at this point. I am also away from home for a few weeks and don't have my records with me. If I think of anything I will message you. I am very interested in learning more about whether our families are indeed related or anything you might discover while you are in Tyrone.
When I get my genealogy unpacked and my new computer up to speed I will tell you what I have discovered.
Good luck in Tyrone and thank you for thinking about me.
