Hello, I am trying to get information on a Catherine Murphy, born 1836, roman catholic. Her mother was a Mary Murphy alias McPolan who was single, but named the father of Catherine as Andrew Murphy. Catherine was believed to have been born County Down.  Mary, her mother was convicted for stealing 3 pigs from Mr McCarthy in 1843 and tried at Hillsborough, sentenced to 7 years to Tasmania. Prior to sailing both Mary and daughter Catherine were held in Grangegorman Female Prison in Dublin and arrived on the ship Greenlaw in July 1844 at Hobart Tasmania. Mary's convict record showed that her name was Mary Murphy alias McPolan. She had a brother Hugh.
