I am cuious to discover more about the contents of a newspaper article published in the Irish Independent April 9, 1940  pp11 entitles 'CO CAVAN PEOPLE WHO VANISHED'  where Eugene Clarke (of Roebuck House, Dundrum, Co Dublin), Charles Clarke, Eleanor Burns (Carrickingoan, Coolderry, Carrickmacross) & Bernard Clarke (Ballyregan, Corcreaghy, P.O. Dundalk) were looking for an order to presume the deaths of Charles & Bernard Clarke who emigrated to America many years prior to the article.  Mentioned also were Eugene Clarke (emigrated 1888) & Peter Clarke, his brother (emgrated over 50 years ago - c 1890?) and a further 17 extended family members.  The above people claimed to be the next of kin to the late Miss Catherine Kiernan of Dundalk, Co Cavan, of whose death I have so far been unable to find!  The application was based on the affidavit of Eugene Reilly.   How would I obtain a copy of the affidavit/court order and any further details of those persons included?

Thank you

  • Hi, an interesting question. Have a similar situation. Will ask a young barrister at my workplace if he can suggest where to look. He is interested in legal history.
