With your Kind Assistance,
I am looking for any information on my maternal great grandmother, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Bowes. She was born on our about 1873. Based on the 1911 Irish Census, it indicates she was from County Tipperary. However, based on some initial research via Ireland Reaching Out, it indicates an Elizabeth Bowes was born in County Cork in 1873, As I do not have any information abour her immediate family, I am curious if there might be a possible confirmation through her marriage. She married Arthur James Finnegan on or about 1898. She appeared in the 1911 Irish Census with her family at a residence in Belfast. The address was 6 Lesson Street. She appears to have immigrated to the US through Liverpool on March 17, 1923 aboard the Cunard Line Ausonia.
I would be interested in any information about my great grandmother, her parents and siblings, if any. I would also be interested in any birth or marriage documentation that might be available.
With my sincere thanks,
Shawn P. McGowan

Shawn:
Below is the 1899 civil marriage index record for the marriage of Arthur Finnegan adn Elizabeth Bowes. They were married in the general belfast area since the marriage was registered in the Belfast district. You can get a copy of this record from the GRO. The record will show the names of the fathers of the bride and groom and where the bride and groom lived in 1899. I can't remember if I explained how to get a record from GRO on my prior message. Let me knwo.

I posted this already. I came across a birth of Eliza Bowes Sept 8 1871 daughter to Patrick Bowes and Catherine Kirby (www.familysearch.org) of Henry Street, Bohercrowe Tipperary Town. Bowes was quite a common name in the Tipperary town. Ages given at censuses were not alwalys accurate in that people tended to understate age until the pensions came into being in1909. Eliza often repaced Elizabeth. Confirm receipt.

Roger,
This is a follow up to my prior correspondence requesting any assistance in obtainng the marriage documentation on Arthur James Finnegan and Elizabeth Bowes. I wanted to start by thanking you again for your kind assistance.
Your most recent response contained a reference to Belfast. It was my understanding that Ireland Reaching Out may not include Northern Ireland. I am truly vexed about finding my paternal grandfather, James Joseph McGowan. My admittedly limited information about him points to Belfast. There is a bit of mystery about his age but all of the US based information points to a birth on or about 1884, His father's names was James McGowan and his mother was Sarah Devlin.I have been reticent to post this inquiry because all indications point to Belfast. Are you (or someone else) able to assist with this research as well?
I would welcome your guidance.

Shawn:
Ireland Reaching Out covers all 32 counties in Ireland.
I looked for a birth record for a James McGowan in the Belfast registration district for 1884 and there were none. Ironically, there were 3 records in 1882 for a birth for a James Magowan ( see index records below). The General Register Office maintains the birth records and you need to contact them to get a copy. I have no idea if any of the three records is for your grandfather. If you go to this link http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx hit the link for Birth certificate in English. You will then get a screen asking for a User Names and Password. Hit Cancel and the form should appear. Fill out the form and then give them the info from all three index records below. Tell them you want a copy of a birth record only if the parents are James McGowan and Sarah Devlin. A copy normally costs around 4 euros. You can also ask the GRO to e-mail a copy to you.
