Hi Col
I don't have an actual marriage certificate for Patrick and Ellen - I found the date and whereabouts on the IGIs, and without any further information on this couple (my great great grandparents) I assumed they were both from Downpatrick.
Regarding the anglicanisation aspect and the need for food - that's interesting. Maybe he changed it to suit his circumstances, because the first evidence I've seen of it is in 1870 when his eldest daughter married my great grandfather (in the Church of England), followed by the 1871 census. And yet there is also evidence of several of his children being christened into the Catholic faith (when the family were living in County Durham in the late 1860s, 1870s and 1880, again in the IGIs.
Thanks and best wishes - Kathleen
