My great-grandparents were Maurice Mahony and Mary Kingston. I know that Mary's father was named Paul, but I have never been able to find which Kingston family is mine. Mary and Maurice were widowed when they married. I think that Mary first married Felix McCarthy in 1861 in the RC parish of Drimoleague, "gratis." Their son Daniel was baptized in RC Drimoleague in 1859, two years before the marriage but he was not recorded as being illegitimate, which is a surprise. His sponsors were Susan Fuller and Julia McCarthy. Mary was baptized in 1862 with sponsors Daniel Kingston and Julia McCarthy. Both children were born in Shronacarton. (Mary's residence was sometimes recorded as Sunville, a townland that existed at the time of the Tithes but one that was absorbed by Shronacarton at the time of Griffith's). I am doggedly pursuing Mary's family and am hoping that if someone is out there from Felix's family, they might be able to help.

I went to Drimoleague recently to look for O'Reilly ancestors and met the 'oldest guy in the village' who was Tim McCarthy! May be a descendent from your ancestors?? Let me know. He's married to Eileen and they have a huge milk farm

Thank you, Penny, for your response. I appreciate it. When I visited that same area a couple of times, I did not know about Felix McCarthy so didn't ask. I was trying to find which Mahony family and which Kingston family were mine. People remind me that the families I am looking for lived over 100 years ago. GRIN! The name McCarthy is very, very common in this area of Ireland, but I suppose I should follow my usual pattern of not leaving a stone unturned. Does Tim have a postal address? (I am guessing he doesn't have email, but maybe one of his children does?) If you prefer to send private information to my email rather than post it on the board, my email address is janfortado@comcast.net Thanks, Penny! Jan

OMG Jan i havent logged into here for ages, sorry, my email is penny_walters@talk21.com and I will look for his address, I don't think he'd even have email, and I can't recall his son's name, who lives in the farmhouse opposite.

Penny, it is just dawning on me that you are the Penny Walters I have touched base with on Facebook. I am not sure why I wasn't notified that you had answered my message. And you think YOU don't check the Drimoleague board often. GRIN!!
I think that pursuing the Felix McCarthy family right now would probably be a tilting-at-windmill activity so I am going to put that at the end of my priority list. Thanks so much for offering to find Tim McCarthy. Jan
